The FSTP is one of three skilled worker programs management under Canada`s Express Entry system
Overview
This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. This program has minimum requirements for skilled work experience, language and education to be eligible. Once these minimum criteria are met the application is processed based on age, education, language skills, valid job offer, experience and adaptability. These factors are part of a 100 point grid system and points are earned based on the score received for each of these factors.

How the immigration process works with the FSWP
Canada uses the Express Entry application management system for three skilled worker programs including the FSWP. If you have not lived in Canada before and are not a skilled trades professional, the FSWP will be your best Express Entry option. First, you need to see if you are eligible under the FSWP's criteria. Then, you submit an Express Entry profile. You will receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on factors such as your age, education, language skills, and work experience. Approximately every two weeks, the Canadian government holds Express Entry draws inviting the candidates with the highest CRS scores to apply for permanent residence. After submitting the completed application, you can expect to receive the results within six months.

Step-by-step guide on how you can pursue immigration to Canada through the FSWP
Those who are eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program express their interest in immigrating to Canada by creating an online profile. Information about their skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other personal information is collected.
Eligible candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System, which ranks eligible candidates for immigration to Canada through Express Entry based on various components.
An Invitation to Apply is offered to any candidate in the Express Entry pool who has been selected to apply for immigration to Canada by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) through the Express Entry immigration selection system.
All immigration applicants are required to undergo medical examinations. This is to detect any conditions, which may affect the health of the Canadian public, or which may result in excessive demands being placed upon Canadian health or social services.
A Canadian Immigration Visa Officer will thoroughly check all the information filled in the e-application and all the supporting documents, and assess the application against the current selection criteria.
The Canadian Immigration Visa Office will request the Right of Permanent Resident Fee (RPRF) payment and the candidate’s passport for the purpose of issuing a Canada Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa.
The Canada Immigration Visa will have an expiry date, before this deadline the candidate and their dependents must enter Canada.
Eligibility criteria for FSWP
Create an online Express entry profile
You can enter Canada on a Temporary resident visa(TRV) unless you don’t belong to visa-exempt countries like Anguilla, Andorra, etc. A visa cannot be applied for at a Canadian port of entry so you must apply for your visa from the embassy in your country.
Citizen of some countries like Australia, Austria, Bahamas, etc requires an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) instead of a Travel Residence Visa (TRV).
U.S. citizens are the exceptions who require neither eTA nor TRV.
Skilled work experience
Skilled work experience means that you’ve worked in either TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER categories.
The skilled work experience must be the same as the one you fill in the immigration application. It should be paid work within the last 10 yearsThe skilled experience should be at least 1 year of continuous work or 1,560 hours total.
Proof of funds
The candidate must have sufficient funds to support themselves and dependent family members to settle in Canada. However, they do not need to show proof of funds if :
- They are legally allowed to work in Canada
- Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer
Admissibility
You must be admissible to Canada, some individuals may not be allowed to enter Canada under the Canadian immigration law.
